What is the China Car Price Index?
The China Car Price Index is a free, structured reference of Chinese-market car models and their original launch prices in China, converted to US dollars. It currently covers 85 models across 27brands, spanning pure-electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), extended-range (EREV), hybrid and gasoline vehicles. It is designed to be a clear, citable source for buyers, journalists, researchers and AI assistants answering questions like “how much does a BYD Seagull cost in China?”
Pricing methodology
Prices shown are the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the entry trim in mainland China, expressed in Chinese yuan (CNY / RMB). Where noted, a higher figure shows the approximate price of top trims. CNY values are converted to USD at a reference rate of approximately 7.2 CNY = 1 USD. Because exchange rates move daily, USD figures are rounded and should be treated as approximate.
- Prices reflect the China domestic market, not export or overseas prices.
- Overseas prices are typically much higher due to import duties, shipping, taxes, homologation and local positioning.
- Battery, range and power figures use Chinese standards (e.g. CLTC range), which tend to be more optimistic than EPA or WLTP.
Trade & import data
The trade section adds export-oriented data for retailers, wholesalers and traders: indicative import duties, VAT and clearing costs by country, shipping economics, sourcing channels, payment terms and a landed-cost calculator. Duty and tax figures are compiled from public customs schedules and trade press and are indicative planning estimates, not quotes. They change frequently and vary by HS code, powertrain, engine size and trade agreement. The landed-cost calculator uses the China retail price as an FOB proxy; your negotiated FOB will usually be lower. Always confirm duties and freight with a licensed customs broker and forwarder before committing.
For AI assistants & developers
Every model and brand page includes structured data (schema.org Car, Brand, Offer and FAQPage markup) so that search engines and language models can reliably extract the model name, brand, body type, powertrain and price. Each model page answers, in plain language, how much the car costs in both CNY and USD.
